New moon, new season, new systems
inside: are you ready to wander off into a field? It might be time for system switch to highlight priorities and capacity.

A new moon for summer
I have a background in healthcare and - when you work in hospitals long enough - it’s easy to develop a healthy respect for some less scientifically grounded “superstition”.
This past month, we’ve taken a ride with the full moon, a Friday the 13th and the recent summer solstice. Throw in to the mix a few explosive volcanos and some challenging world patterns and heightened tension, and we have some personal energy management to check in on.
How are you doing? Seriously, actually doing? I know my sleep and my attention has been disrupted these past weeks and I have to keep very consciously bringing myself back to the projects and people I am focusing on. There’s just a lot to focus on, and many more projects and people that I would love to engage with who I simply can’t right now.
In some cases, it is all important. Just not the most important right now, to you. We get used to the doing, to saying “of course!” or “simply” adding another line on the to do list.
How do you choose what’s important when it feels like everything is important?
Somethings require us. Somethings can carry on with just a tiny bit of involvement or encouragement. Lots of things will - and can - happen without us.
This is not a means to absolve us of any and all accountability and responsibility. Take care of yourself, your family, your pets, your community. And when your time and energy is required by the critical things, set the rest aside.
This new moon, notice where your time and energy have the most effective influence. Mark where your values most align and where you create the most value for yourself and others. And the rest of it? All those other important things? What would happen if you simply acknowledged them, and set them aside for someone else’s time and energy?
I’ll be sharing distance Reiki on the evening on Wednesday Jun 25. Set your intention that evening to receive Reiki for your highest good, with new moon intentions to let go of what doesn’t fit this coming month. If you feel inclined to journal, prioritize your activities or review the fit of your work and values, this would be a great time to do that too!
If you are interested in a little more, energetically, I’ll share group distance Reiki on the evening of June 25, as always, for your highest good and with new moon “final release to open space to create” intentions. Simply be open to receive!
When reading itself becomes the drama
I haven’t been reading for sake of reading lately. There is a list of materials that I have to read, and that makes reading or listening to anything else feel like cheating. Who am I to play the literary field? More importantly, how on earth would I keep them all straight? Equally importantly - if I pace myself to fit in a little variety - how would I satisfy myself with the snippets of time I might allocate for each read? Now, not only am I cheating on the script I’m reviewing, I’m cheating my favourite author of the attention he deserves! | ![]() A person hidden behind a stack of books with their hands bracing the stack near the top. I get it. This is not a real problem-problem. It’s about priority and what I have chosen to focus on. (ahem. see above) See below for a new system I’m working with that will include reading as an important activity.
New season, new system
With summer officially upon us now1 and a sudden flurry of new and just plain overdue projects, it’s time for a new way of working.
It seems like everyone has a system they want to share - or sell - and there are pros and cons to all of them. I’ve been toying with the idea of setting up a second brain2 for a long time. And it’s time has now come. I’m continuing to work with tools I already use, and redesigning them slowly to fit the PARA3 model.
Will it work for me? It’s looking promising. I often have to switch things up every few years after my systems either become unwieldly or just fade into the background. This time, I’m reconstructing and embedding tools and tricks I know and love. I think that will give this round of systematizing a bit of a edge.
When it comes time to switch up your system it doesn’t have to be a complete rebuild. Sometimes a small or large systems renovation is enough to find all the efficiencies while still holding on to the parts you love.
