Waning moon, releasing weight

As we head for the new moon on February 27, it’s a good time to reflect on what (or who) is ready to be released: successfully finished projects, regrets, toxic habits, a book you just can’t get into. Whether you’re turning a page or cutting a cord, I always like to think of it as releasing. It’s a clean motion with little effort that separates the action from negative associations and lingering thoughts. It’s just done. No fuss.

Releasing things we’re done with - or even consciously setting other things aside for a time - frees up mental, emotional and energetic capacity to hold and balance what remains. And that shift changes our physical well-being by decreasing unnecessary stress and all the effects we know stress has on our well-being.

Here are two ways to release:

For our making conscious choices folks

  1. What you can close and tidy up right now? What just needs to be filed, have t’s crossed and i’s dotted, or handed over? Define what you need to do to close and complete these things fully.

  2. Is there anything you’re fighting uphill against that is no longer worth the energy and impact? Perhaps that book you “should” read that just not resonating, or that relationship that has become wholly one-sided? Is it best to step back just a bit, or fully step away?

For an embodied approach

Move! Whether it going for a walk, run, swim, dance or stretch, notice what areas of your body move freely and set an intention to safely free up those areas of tension, stickiness or stiffness. Always stay safe and within your physical limits. Simply notice where you might let go of tension and give it permission to leave.

It’s completely okay if we do not consciously know what is being released. Sometimes we hold onto things for so long, we forget what we picked up in the first place.

Focusing efforts

I have formally deactivated and initiated the deletion processes for my Facebook, Instagram and X/Twitter accounts. It’s never as simple as “leaving” but all of the wheels are now in motion following years of struggling with and against what it means to create meaningful connections in those of increasing algorithms and advertisements. While it took rethinking what connectyourdots looks like here, on BlueSky, in SubStack and - perhaps - a few new spaces, it also means being able to let go of years of constructs and a few self-imposed expectations while bringing what worked with us to create stronger connected lives.
